Hubert Sumlin, legendary blues guitarist for the Howlin’ Wolf band died this past Sunday. (see more)  His services and wake will take place this weekend in New Jersey where he has been living for the past ten years. However, he will be buried this coming Tuesday in south suburban Chicago. A memorial is being planned for that evening in the Chicago area. News today from Hubert’s road manager and friend’s posting on facebook is that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have offered to pay for the funeral expenses.

More information about the funeral can be found on the website of Festa Memorial Funeral Home in Towtowa, NJ.  FitzGerald’s Nightclub in Berwyn will be hosting a reception/benefit/tribute concert/blues jam on Tuesday evening, December 13. Doors will open at 7PM with no set cover charge but donations will be accepted at the door. Hubert has made numerous appearances in the Chicago area in recent years including as part of a tribute to Robert Johnson at Orchestra Hall and at the Chicago Blues Festival, but the last full club gig was when he played with The Nighthawks at the Berwyn roadhouse, where he also performed with Bob Margolin and Pinetop Perkins in a memorable show about a year earlier. .
